Weather forecast, stargazing score & storm alerts
A local forecast for the area you’re looking at, a “stargazing tonight” score, daylight times, official severe-weather warnings, and a device-sensor storm alert. Fetched online and cached, so the last copy still shows offline.
Before you start
- No separate download. The forecast is fetched over the internet the first time you open it and cached on your device, then shown offline with the time it was fetched.
- Weather alerts and river data come from our backend when you’re online.
Do this
- On the Map tab, tap the weather (☁️) control.
- Read the local forecast, the stargazing score (0–5) for tonight, and the daylight / sunrise–sunset times.
- Any active severe-weather warnings for the area are shown alongside.
Good to know
- Cached for offline. The forecast normally comes through our own server, which relays Open-Meteo; if that can’t be reached the app queries Open-Meteo directly with rounded coordinates. No account or identifier is attached. The result is cached and shown with an “as of” time.
- The stargazing score combines darkness (light pollution), the moon phase, and cloud cover into a single 0–5 rating.
- Weather alerts are official warnings (MeteoAlarm across Europe, US NWS) fetched from our backend for a coarse area — no identifier is attached.
- Storm / pressure sensing uses the iPhone barometer to watch the pressure trend and raise a storm alert on a sharp drop; it’s surfaced in About and the weather detail.
If something’s off
- Forecast looks old → you’re offline; the “as of” time shows when it was last fetched. Reconnect to refresh.
- No alerts shown → either there are none for your area, or you’re offline with no cached copy.
