Peer-to-peer region sharing
Hand a downloaded map region straight to a nearby device over a local peer-to-peer connection — no signal and no server needed. Perfect for seeding a friend who has no connection.
Before you start
- You need a region already downloaded on your device (see offline maps).
- Both devices should be close together and have Bluetooth / local network permission for the app (used only for this transfer).
Do this
- On the sending device, open Data → Regions and choose to share a downloaded region.
- On the receiving device, open the same share screen.
- The devices discover each other over local peer-to-peer, and the region’s cells transfer directly. The receiver’s map fills in the same way a download does.
Good to know
- The transfer is device-to-device over Apple’s MultipeerConnectivity — the map data travels directly between the two devices and never passes through our servers.
- Received data merges via the same cell path as a normal download, so partial coverage renders as it arrives.
- Great when neither of you has a signal — one person’s download becomes two.
If something’s off
- Devices don’t find each other → make sure both have the share screen open, are close together, and granted local network / Bluetooth permission.
